Charge & Chew has no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising. Here is exactly what happens with your data, on the website and in the iOS app.
Used only when you tap the locate button, to centre the map on you. It stays on your device. Two things are sent elsewhere so the app can work, neither of them to us: your coordinates go to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim to put a place name on the area, and to the OSRM router when you plan a route. Both are community services with their own policies. Deny location and everything still works by searching a city or pressing on the map.
Saved stops, your car, theme and filter choices, and the last area you looked at — in your browser's local storage, or the app's. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing site data, or deleting the app, removes all of it.
We count page views with GoatCounter, which is open-source and privacy-first: no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. It tells us roughly how many people used the site and which pages, and nothing about who you are.
Map tiles from Esri; charger data from the US DOE / NREL Alternative Fuel Stations database (bundled, refreshed monthly); chain and shop locations from OpenStreetMap. Tapping a place or "Directions" opens Google Maps or Apple Maps, which are governed by their own policies.
