Charge & Chew has no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising. Here is exactly what happens with your data, on the website and in the iOS app.
Used only when you tap the locate button, to centre the map on you. It is never sent to us. Some of it reaches the map services the app needs, none of which is ours: a town-level position (rounded to about a kilometre) goes to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim to put a place name on the area; your start and destination go to the OSRM router when you plan a route; and map tiles and nearby-place lookups reveal the area you are looking at to the services listed below. Deny location and everything still works by searching a city or pressing on the map.
Saved stops, your car, theme and filter choices, and the last area you looked at — in your browser's local storage, or the app's. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing site data, or deleting the app, removes all of it.
We count page views with GoatCounter, which is open-source and privacy-first: no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. It tells us roughly how many people used the site and which pages, and nothing about who you are.
Map tiles from Esri (or CARTO, if you choose that map style, or as a stand-in while Esri is unreachable); fonts from Google Fonts, which like any web host sees your IP address when the page loads; charger data from the US DOE / NREL Alternative Fuel Stations database (bundled, refreshed monthly); chain and shop locations from OpenStreetMap, including live lookups through its Overpass service. Tapping a place or "Directions" opens Google Maps or Apple Maps, which are governed by their own policies.
